Information

Krabi is at the moment Thailand's best kept secret and from any point you stand along the coast you will be astounded by the views out to the hundreds of local islands and islets. Most famously is James Bond Island which featured in 'The man With The Golden Gun' and Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi, which became the dream destination for many a traveller passing through Asia.

Getting to Krabi

Krabi is very reachable by car at just a 2 hour drive from Phuket airport and 2 hour drive from Koh Samui (once you get off the ferry) so it is very popular for people escaping from these destinations. Krabi airport has just undergone an expansion to accommodate future interest in the area. There are already direct flights coming in from Sweden as well as Singapore and Kuala Lumpa. Domestically regular flights arrive from Bangkok and 1 flight a day from Koh samui.

Accomodation

Krabi Weather Seasons

The temperature in Krabi generally ranges between 28 and 36 degrees celcius and averages at about 31. Rather than all coming in two months you may get an hour of rain every other day for around 5 months starting in June.

What to do in Krabi

Krabi has some of the most stunning coastline anywhere on the planet and is a mecca for kayaking, rock climbing and scuba diving. But you don't have to be an adrenalin junkie to enjoy the Andaman coast with plenty of divine beaches for lounging around on and some top class hospitality options as well. Also growing in popularity as a honeymooning destination for European travellers, Krabi is possibly the most underrated area of Thailand and a prime spot for the discerning tourist. Ao Nang beach
Ao Nang is the main resort around Krabi and although the beach is nothing special, the convenience of the area and great transport links to nearby attractions make it a good base to stay. And even if the sand is not as glistening white as nearby Railay, the stunning backdrop of limestone karst cliffs is still a wonder to behold. Ao Nang has some top class restaurants which serve up dreamy seafood dishes from the morning's catch as well as international cuisine from the four corners of the world.

Koh Phi Phi Nature Park
Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le became famous as the location of the hit Hollywood blockbuster The Beach starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Robert Carlyle. And there is a reason why the location scout fell in love with the surroundings here with dramatic limestone cliffs plunging majestically into the crystal clear sea. Snorkelling and diving tours are relatively inexpensive and there is arguably the best nightlife outside Bangkok after dark. Phi Phi is a great destination for a short if exhilarating stay. Krabi Town
Despite the throngs of tourist resorts surrounding the town, Krabi has remained a provincial capital with a truly Thai feel. The fact that it has somehow escaped the indelible mark of tourist activity is the redeeming feature about Krabi Town, and why its well worth dropping by if you are looking for flavourful meal that wont break the bank or to have fun haggling in the local markets. The seafood on offer here is arguably fresher and certainly better value than any of the surrounding resorts.

Railay Beach
The breathtaking scenery of Railay is also the reason for its limited development. Although strictly part of mainland Thailand, the sheer limestone cliffs surrounding Railay make it solely accessible by boat and thus bestows a secluded island feel to the area. Railay West (by far the prettier of the two bays) is home to exclusively five star resorts while a few budget options are available across the small split of land at uglier sibling Railay East. But if you crave more resort facilities without the prohibitive price tag then stay in Ao Nang and get the ten minute ferry each morning.
